Day 98 - Day 101

23. SmartBrain App - Frontend

I'm almost done with the frontend part of the project. While studying this section, I've covered a good part of the backend section and touched the database portion a bit.

The Amona project has stalled for the past two days. The only thing done so far apart of the Backend section completed by Chris is creation of figma account for us all, linking Pivotal tracker to slack and github. We also have a new backend task at startng - {I need to revisit the lecture notes}.

So far so good, this covid-19 lockdown has been productive.

PHCN has really dealt with me for the past four days. The lockdown has prevented me from going out and power has been out for four days. I haven't written any code during that period. I just hope it gets resolved soon.

The Amona project started today. The next two months promises to be eventful and I intend to make the best of it God helping me.

Still on still. I've not actually had time to work on this project. Been preoccupied with startng tasks (node, mongodb and some html assignments). As soon as I'm done with those, I'll complete it and start working on the backend.

The lines are beginning to connect gradually and I'm most likely to finish way ahead of my planned schedule.

I'll try to work on the app today (the plan is to complete it by Friday). The only challenge could be power (I sincerely hope the rainfall won't affect power supply in my area today).

Startng Node JS (MongoDb) course is going far better than I expected. This MongoDb stuff looks easy and straight to the point. I just need to keep my morale and newly found zeal at optimum level

The backend section of the startng project is also progressing well. We were introduced to MongoDB today and it looks cool. I'll most likely start another 30days of React challenge (Immersive course) hosted by Asabeneh and it should be a walk in the park for me. This quarantine/lockdown period must be fully utilized. No excuse at all.

I started work on the frontend section of the SmartBrain Project. It has been a awesome journey so far and the date of completion still looks feasible.

The startng program is also going well. Covid-19 is still moving mad. Hoping for a permanent solution soonest.

Completed APIs today. I'll be moving to the next section tomorrow.

I also completed and submitted the nodejs task on startng. That node stuff looked daunting at first but I'll overcome it.

Started API (officially) today. Application Programming Interface is a cool topic and I've had numerous encounters with it. This is just a revision of what I've known before hand.

The NodeJs progress has been encouraging as well. I started part of the assignment today and I should complete it by tomorrow hopefully.

I completed this section today. Moving over to the next stage by tomorrow. This backend stuff is an uncharted territory for me and I'll spend quite some time dwelling on it. My June target is still realistic and I'm working seriously towards it.

I did the certificate test for the 30days of Javascript challenge today and it served as a refresher for some of the things I learnt during the project.

The Startng program (Frontend and Backend) is also going well. I'm yet to fully begin the NodeJs course. I'll revisit the video tonight/early morning tomorrow and try to work on the assignment given.

I'm finally wrapping up this section today and progressing to the next stage. The last few days have been discouraging and de-motivating in all honesty but I just have to keep moving on. Quitters never win (Don't forget that).

I did a brief overview/revision on this topic today and also started the startng project fully. I made a fresh git commit today after a 'long' break. I've been discouraged and unmotivated of recent. I need to focus on the end goal and persevere. All is Well

The seemingly long time I spent on this section is worth it and it is a huge boost considering that this was where I stopped at my first attempt with the course.

I finally resumed learning. Started with some reading and started the robofriends app from the scratch. I was able to create the cardlist myself and did some styling as well. I'm having a bit of challenge with regards to functionality of the searchbox.

I implemented the animated counter on the zadok gym website. It is quite simple (a recursive function and setTimeout function). This is a significant work based on my recent drought and it has provided the needed boost at this time.

NB: I've completed lessons 20, 21 and 22. I'm only dwelling on React because it is important I understand it adequately. My first attempt at this course last year stopped abruptly when I got to the react section and I don't want a repeat of that this time around.

It has been react all the way and the main challenge I'm having now is finding a way to quickly create the sample react file. The lowest time based on my experiment is abt 15mins and even getting it to work after that has been an herculean task. I hope to resolve it by tomorrow

Moving to the 30days Javascript challenge, I completed the final project today and it was an awesome experience all through. I learnt a host of new things and my problem solving skills has improved considerably. I'm looking forward to tackling the next challenge which is React.

This 30days challenge project is taking more of my time and making me fall behind schedule with regards to the ZTM course. I'll try as much as possible to complete it today. I somehow fell asleep yesternight (which is strange) and couldn't get to finish it during the day.

My plan was to move to react by today, however the 30days Javascript projects took the whole time I have for coding today. I'm currently doing the last project and it has been a rewarding and enlightening process so far. I'll be shuttling the two for the rest of the week till I'm done with the challenge.

I'm currently working on Day 29 project and the implementation of the tasks looks tricky. There are four major sections (changing background color, individual text color, font-type and font-size). I've successfully done 1 out of the 4. Once the logic is unlocked, the remaining three will be a walk in the park.

Badminton took the whole of my late morning/afternoon. I have not trained in about two weeks and today's training was tough. I was completely exhausted by the time I finished.

However, I made significant progress in the project for Day 25 of the 30days challenge. Part of the task requires learning something completely new (creating charts) and it is not in the syllabus. I therefore have to do a little bit of reading on that to enable me complete the project.

So far so good its been amazing.

I finally moved away from Advanced Javascript to Command Line today. I completed the video and did some practice on it. The "weekend factor" is still at work and I couldn't do much coding related activity all through the day. Tomorrow ought to be better though.

I'm still on Project 3 of Day 22 challenge in the 30days programme. I'll complete the remaining modules/project before the end of the month.

The 30days Javascript challenge officially came to an end today. Even though I'm still on day 22 it has been a great journey so far. I hope to complete all the projects before the end of next month.

With regards to ZTM, it seems I'm stuck right where I stopped last year, however, I'm making serious underground progress overall. The 30 days javascript challenge journey has been amazing so far and I'm already on Day 22. Everything from here onwards is geared towards building stuffs and I can say its nice combining all I've been reading and learning from day one in building actual projects. "Line by line, precept upon precept, code upon code, I'll get there"

I could not move further as I was battling with the 30days Javascript Challenge. Most of the topics encountered in the challenge are things that was discussed by Andrei in his video especially the advanced javascript section. I completed Days 19 and 20 of the challenge and I'm happy with my progress so far.

I will continue with the ZTM course tomorrow hopefully. The gradient background generator project is still pending (How I wish 48hours make a day!!!). We move***

I'm still stuck here, the closures and currying segment is giving me a bit of a tough time.

Meanwhile, I completed days 16, 17 and 18 of the 30days javascript challenge. Not having power for a large part of the day affected my progress a bit (as I could only read the text). I will solve the exercises subsequently.

The large chunk of my coding time today was spent on learning about Javascript classes. I learnt about constructors, getters, setters, super and static. The journey is far but I will get there. I still have in mind to fine-tune the gradient generator hopefully before the end of the week. Its all good so far.

Like I posted yesterday, I'll be moving to the next section on Monday 27th. I completed Day 14 of the 30days javascript challenge today. It was on error handling and I learnt about try, catch, throw and finally. Nothing was done on the gradient background generator.

I completed Day 13 of the 30days javascript challenge. I learnt about the various console object methods and saw some new things for the first time today. The work on the gradient background generator will continue tomorrow.

I completed the videos in this section today. My ZTM plan for the remaining days of this week is to complete the work on the background generator and do a brief review of chapters 1 - 13.

I also completed day 11 and 12 exercises and tutorials of the 30days javascript challenge (destructuring, spread operator and regular expressions).

Even though I'm lagging behind, I'm happy with my overall progress so far.

Still on this section (ZTM). I was able to squeeze in some videos and continued work on the gradient background generator. It is turning out to be quite complex than I thought.

One lesson I've learnt so far is to try as much as possible to write out the codes for any problem and avoid solving the problem in my mind.

I continued with day 11 notes of the 30days javascript challenge. My morale was a bit low today though.

I'm still in this section. I watched a couple of videos on destructuring and closures. I continued with the two color gradient background generator and could not do much on Day 11 of the 30days challenge.

I continued with the advanced javascript lesson of the ZTM course today. I also completed Day 10 exercises in the 30days javascript challenge. I recreated the gradient background generator in lesson 12 of the ZTM course today as well.

I started with advanced javascript today and it was mainly reading and a two videos on switch and ternary operators (ZTM course). I couldn't do any coding exercise in the 30days challenge for day 10

I completed DOM Manipulation section of ZTM course and completed the remaining part of Day 9 exercises (30 days Javascript challenge). Weekend is always busy hence the reduced amount of time spent for coding. I'll find a way to squeeze in more time during weekends

I remained on the DOM today and did more day 9 exercises in the 30days js challenge. I could not do much today. Being consistent is what matters most.

Its two weeks already and the journey so far has been great. I continued with more javascript exercises (functions and objects). I couldn't proceed with Andrei's course today (I'll try as much as possible to continue with it tomorrow).

12. DOM Manipulation

I moved to the next topic in the ZTM course and completed the dom manipulation section. I'll practice and solve a range of exercises on it tomorrow.

I also made progress with the 30days javascript challenge (Day 8 was completed and I started day 9 lesson today). I'm happy with my progress so far. It can only get better

Day 15

Couldn't do much today. I was able to squeeze in some exercises on Objects (declaration, creating key-value pairs and object manipulation). It will all add up with time.

I continued with Day 7 Challenge of the 30days Javascript challenge and was able to complete it. A bulk of the exercises I've been doing so far is helping me master the basis as well as making Andrei's course easy as well.

I finally concluded section 11 of Andrei's course and I'll be moving on the next segment tomorrow.

80% of my time today was devoted to completing Day 6 challenge of the 30days Js challenge and I commenced solving some of the exercises in Day 7 challenge. Momentum and morale are both high and I pray it stays that way all through the year.

I couldn't do any coding related task today. I was engaged all through with some vital and unavoidable tasks. I was able to squeeze in some videos on Regular expressions though. I hope to cover up tomorrow.

I focused more on the 30days challenge today and completed Day 5. Most of the exercises are in line with Andrei's topic on Javascript part 1 (loops, arrays, variables, among others). I'll just try as much as possible to keep the momentum.

More javascript review. I continued with the 30days javascript challenge today and I was able to complete day 3 challenge. Zadok Gym will have to wait.

11. Javascript - part 1

Started Javascript (part 1) today and I completed it. It was more of a review of what I've learnt before now. I've also started the exercises of the 30days javascript challenge and currently on day 2. the only question I'm having challenge with is the one that involves determining the most frequent word in a sentence.

I could not work on the gym design today. I'll make some UI changes to it tomorrow.

I did a review/revision of the first 10 sections today and also added more features (design-wise) to the gym website. This is the screenshot of the project as at yesterday:

10. Career of a web developer

I completed the above today and also built a sample website for a gym. I also resumed studies on data structures and algorithm (Introduction alone).

I went over the two majorly used layout (grid and flexbox) and practiced on some interactive websites.

I could not work on the 30days javascript challenge because I was engaged in other pressing activities during the day. Tomorrow is another day.

The past four days have been spent on revision of what I learnt last year hence the speed. The pace will likely drop by the time I get to sections that I've not attempted before now.

I also began work on the 30days challenge as well.

I covered sections 5 and 6 of the course today and built a sample website to refresh my memory. I'm moving ahead of schedule and I intend to keep it that way.

In other news, I got a link to a telegram group (30days of Javascript - https://t.me/ThirtyDaysOfJavaScript) and I believe it will assist to fast-track my journey for the year. The group looks exciting and I'll try as much as possible to keep to the schedule just like I did with a similar one (21-days coding challenge). 

Day 2

I completed the lambda school web precourse syllabus today and continued with Andrei Neagoie - The Complete Web Developer in 2020: Zero to Mastery course. A little back story on this - I started the course last year and was able to cover only 60% of the course. My plan is to revisit the course and do a revision of the materials I covered last year in this month of January (Two days for each chapter on the average).

Day 1

Started a year long journey of Web Development today. The aim is to code and/or do a programming related task for each day. Its a commitment that will come with some challenges coupled with the fact that I have a full-time job that is unrelated to programming, however I'm prepared to overcome all odds.

I did a brief review/revision of some lessons and also started the lambda school web precourse syllabus; I completed 70% of the material today.
